Fortnightly Update #2-2022

Welcome to the second music update of 2022

Let's talk about ANBENNAR!

Yesterday the Anbennar main theme reached 10k views on Youtube, which is an awesome achievement. To celebrate I have decided to clear a backlogged request for a more gentle, less bombastic and more atmospheric version of the Anbennar theme.

For me, this is something a little different. So, referring to great atmospheric tracks from games like Skyrim, I am treating this like a bit of an experiment. As such, I've given three snips of music ideas that I'm working with to create a more calmer Anbennar world. I will talk about them here, and I am open to anyone who wants to make a comment/suggestion.

For reference, you can listen to the original Anbennar theme below.

The first thing you will notice when you listen to these snips is that the music is slower, the melody is a bit different and the instrumentation is definitely not all brass. In parts like Snip 1 and Snip 3 the music is still relatively upbeat, but the overall harmony is drawn out and the pacing is slow. A choir, the basses and an organ have all been mixed together to try create a more world-filling sound for which the altered melodies can go over the top.

And on the melodies: some are the same - snip 2 is the Anbennar theme in its entirety, but in a totally different tone. But you may notice that the flow of the music - the tying of melodies and harmonic passages - is different to normal. Generally, you can hear a clear build-up, natural transition or flow seamlessly from one section to another. This is what I focus on a lot and it creates a notable point of difference. But in an atmospheric piece it's not so much led by melody and harmony, as by the tone and mood.

So in creating this music I am having to try step into a new & different realm of music.

Enjoy!
