Monthly Update #1-2023
Welcome to the first music update of 2023
The Past
The year has kicked off with the ghost of Steve Jobs smiling down upon me: this message is being typed on my brand new Mac which arrived yesterday! The power of this computer compared to my 8-year-old relic is astounding. One of the first things I do with a new computer is boot up Civilization and see how long it takes to load a new game. My previous computer would usually take around 3-4 minutes to achieve this, but this computer does it in only 20s.
It was time for a new computer. My previous one was getting too old and cumbersome. With only 16gb RAM it was struggling to run anything. The battery had gone to custard, the storage was overflowing and I had the OS intentionally outdated so I could continue running my 10-year-old music and design software. Increasingly my music programs were crashing simply due to the sheer size and complexity of my pieces. This is why the Extended Timeline theme has been on hold.
Now, my new computer has well more than the recommend specs for music-making, and the new up-to-date OS allows me to finally start upgrading and modernising my software. Ultimately, this means the music is about to get a whole lot more dope. All I need to do now is spend a decent amount of time learning all the new tools available to me.
The Future
Next week you can look forward to the full Princes of Persia music track release for Ante Bellum! Beyond that things are a little more murky. I need to spend some time transitioning onto this new computer and explore all the new tools at my disposal. I'll also be focussing heavily on kicking up some of the key projects for the year. As such, it's unlikely there will be another release in February, but I'm definitely looking to get something out in March!
Enjoy!
